PRESIDENT MARTELLY IS BACK IN HAITI
(Haiti Libre) -

President Michel Martelly has shortened his participation at the 32nd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which ends July 4, because of the importance of negotiations which are taking place between the Presidential Commission and the various political forces to reach a consensus on the next Prime Minister. "We're back immediately [...] as you know, we have a Commission that is working hard with parliamentarians on the issue of the appointment of a Prime Minister and to facilitate its ratification" declared the President Martelly on his arrival, yesterday Friday before summarizing briefly to the journalists, some of his actions at this 32nd Meeting.

"The various Heads of States present, and the Prime Ministers, met for a working session [...] We made reflections, for example, on projects related to agriculture and investment [...] Before I left the summit, I met Percival James Patterson, the former Prime Minister of Jamaica, [the Special Envoy for Haiti of the CARICOM] and we discussed issues concerning Haiti: the funds to help the reconstruction, the relations with the Caribbean Development Bank, the issue of education and the possibility to establish a University of the Caribbean in Haiti. We agreed, that while we were talking about the modalities of this University [...] that 100 Haitian students, in the new session that will open in September, will undergo training with the University of the West Indies (UWI).

We also had the opportunity to meet, and it was a pleasure and an honor, about 40 to 50 Haitian students, studying medicine in St. Kitts and Nevis [...] We told them that we are proud of them; that it is the road that the children of the country must take; the road of education, so that Haiti can finally get out of the problems in which it is. Sustainable development is through education and training"
