NEW DIGITAL SPACE TO THE EFACAP OF MEYER (JACMEL)
(Haiti Libre) -

The Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF) and the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) have recently launched the Digital Space "Francophone initiative for distance training of teachers (IFADEM)" at the Fundamental School of Application - Pedagogical Support Center (EFACAP) of Meyer (Jacmel, Haiti).

Equipped with twenty computers connected to the Internet, powered by a solar panel system, this space aims to strengthen the capacity of the teachers of elementary education (fundamental) for the Southeast Department. This is the second space of this type opened in Haiti as part of the deployment of IFADEM, after that of the École Normale d’Instituteurs of Les Cayes in 2010.

The participants received a demonstration on the state of the art operation of the equipment and the benefits of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) in distance education, by Mr. Louis-Beethoven Montrose, the technical manager of the local AUF.

At the end of August 2011, the digital space of Meyer and the digital space of Les Cayes will welcome the 500 teachers targeted by IFADEM for their first reunion. They will receive trainings on initiation to computer and the Internet.

Schedule of activities IFADEM-Haiti :

July 25 to 29, 2011: Training of trainers in Les Cayes
1 and August 13, 2011: Workshop on distance tutoring in Les Cayes (tutors IFADEM)
1 and August 13, 2011: Workshop on distance tutoring in Les Cayes (educational counselors MENFP)
August 22 to 27, 2011: 1st reunion of teachers in Jacmel and Les Cayes.

Co-led by the OIF and the AUF, the Initiative of the IFADEM, participates in international efforts in favor of a quality basic education for all and aims to improve the skills of the teachers in their teaching and of French.

In Haiti, the MENFP in partnership with French operators has put in place a national committee that coordinates the experimental phase of the program. The actors of the IFADEM, content developers, trainers, tutors are trained and accompanied by experts from French universities. The system of training and all teaching materials created for IFADEM are the fruit of their collaboration.

The Initiative has made the pedagogical innovation choice to train teachers according to their needs. For this it relied on a hybrid device that combines traditional training and distance education; print and audio, learning content and introduction to computers and the Internet.

At the end of the experimental phase of the IFADEM in Haiti and its assessment, the educational authorities and operators of the Francophonie will work together on the details of its deployment throughout the country.
