EX-DICTATOR DUVALIER BANNED FROM LEAVING HAITI - OFFICIAL
(Washington Post) - AFP

PORT-AU-PRINCE--Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier is "barred from leaving" Haiti, a judge said late Thursday, as the ousted dictator sought to clear his name from prosecutors' charges.

"A flight ban has been issued against Duvalier. He is barred from leaving the country because there is a court order against him," a Haitian judge said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Duvalier, ousted in a popular uprising, was charged on Tuesday with corruption, embezzlement of public funds and criminal association during his 1971-1986 rule.

In a separate legal challenge, four Haitians, including a prominent journalist, filed criminal suits against him on Wednesday alleging crimes against humanity.
