HAITI - ECONOMY: ATLANTA CITY COUNCIL ON TRADE MISSION TO HAITI

Atlanta City Council President, Ceasar C. Mitchell recently returned from a four day trade mission to Haiti. He was accompanied by a delegation of several business leaders from Atlanta to explore the possibilities of economic development in Haiti.

"I think it is important to explore economic development possibilities beyond our country’s borders," declared Ceasar C. Mitchell, "We live in a global society and tomorrow's economy will be dependent on the relationships we build today."

While in Haiti, Council President Mitchell met with several dignitaries including Laurent Lamothe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister-designate, Professor Wilson Laleau, Minister of Trade and Industry, and Hébert Docteur, Minister of Agriculture. His agenda also included a meeting with Haitian President Michel Martelly.

During his visit Mitchell had the opportunity to tour the Sonapi and Shodecosa Industrial Parks, two of the largest industrial parks in Haiti. He notes that he is looking forward to working with Haitian elected officials and business people to establish mutually beneficial partnerships.
