MARTELLY NOT IN A HURRY TO DESIGNATE 3RD PRIME MINISTER
(Defend Haiti) -
SANTIAGO, Chile - "Mately pa presé." President Michel Martelly said on Sunday that the committee appointed to facilitate the designation of the next prime minister continues to work, but it is not clear that the choice has been made and he will not force it to be made.
"All four of the commissions continue to work. I know that they are working, but I can not force them to move forward. We expect to move forward, we hope to move forward, but we can not force it," said the Head of State responding to a question.
Mr. Martelly further stated, that his team put measures in place to continue to work for the people of Haiti until his government has been formed.
"We have set up other ways to work, while waiting to get where we want... the establishment of a government," assured Mr. Martelly. "To our satisfaction, we believe that we are moving very well. The presidency is in good health. There are people who would lead us into a war of nerves, but it has not worked so far," he concluded.
The President has, since the rejection of his 2nd designated prime minister, installed six members of his cabinet to represent the state on the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC); the commission that is planning projects with money from international donors and banks. The President has also not eliminated the option of governing by decree in areas where needed.
Late last week, Parliamentarians were clearly flustered by not being able to do their work, due to the absence of a prime minister and the matter of ratifying one still on the table. Senator Jean Hector Anacacis complained of the fact that no meetings or work was being done, but other MPs said that house commissions were still continuing to work in the absence of a functioning government.
It was reported by Radio Signal FM that the name of the former mayor of Port-au-Prince, Evans Paul, had surfaced as a possibility. Days later it seems as though this rumor has not found its legs to continue to run.
