U.S. DIPLOMATS MEET WITH THE G16
(Haiti Libre) -
The Senator Jean Hector Anacacis, Vice-President of the Senate and faithful ally of the G16, confirmed that a meeting was held Wednesday night, at Morne Calvaire (east of the capital) between members of the G16 and U.S. diplomats led by Kenneth Merten, U.S. Ambassador to Haiti.
Though absent at this meeting, Senator Anacasis asserted that there had been no pressure or recommendation by the U.S. "The United States are inevitably everywhere, not just in Haiti; the Senators can not refuse to meet the U.S. Ambassador..." This has not prevented the Vice President of the Senate to recognize at the same time, of having convinced some Senators not to participate at this meeting; remarks confirmed by the absence of 10 members of the G16 at the meeting... Anacacis said that the parliamentarians had expressed at the meeting, their willingness to help to unblock the situation if the Head of State "shares his responsibilities..."
On Thursday, the second Senator of the South East, Wencesclass Lambert, stressed that the U.S. diplomats only expressed the concerns of the Obama administration, about the political impasse and explored ways to get out. G16 members have indicated their position on the issue; to find from the current political crisis a focusing on the necessity of "a compromise" that can enable the formation of a new government.
Wencesclass Lambert, recalled that the G16 did not intend to oppose the new Government and it was ready to ratify a new Prime Minister designate if "the conditions are met..." stating requesting President Martelly to respect the limits of his powers.
He warned that the majority group and the Parliament will never let the Head of State decide all things alone. "We will never ever let Martelly appoint alone, the 44heads of diplomatic missions of Haiti abroad, and never, will he appoint, alone the 36 Directors General and 18 ministerial portfolios..."
