ARTICLE - SCHOOLS TO OPEN OCTOBER 3

PRESIDENT MARTELLY CONFIRMS THE RETURN TO SCHOOL FOR OCTOBER 3
(Haiti Libre) -

Announced in October, the Head of State confirmed in a statement, that in consultation with the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), the new school year is postponed until October 3, to allow the Presidency, donors and all other relevant sectors, to be better prepared for this new school year; while taking into account the difficulties arising from the current political situation...

In this regard, last Saturday, on a local radio station, Dr. Josette Bijou, who had sent an open letter to the President of the Republic, to make the next school year a success, said that she was in favor of the postponement of the school year to October.

However, her position is conditional, to a good planning and for provisions that can alleviate the magnitude of the problems, which according to her "appear to be more serious this year"; citing among other things "the financial situation of parents and the wages of the teachers."

She suggests to President Martelly, to open his technical team in charge of education and proposes him a meeting with the departmental Directors, so that they can present the current situation in their region, in order to establish a schedule for the implementation of the envisaged measures.
