(The News) - By AFP
PORT-AU-PRINCE - A UN soldier died Tuesday after being shot during an assault on his Port-au-Prince home, the UN mission in Haiti said.
Sergeant Ndagijimana Serge Kamari of Rwanda, 46, joined the MINUSTAH mission on April 7 and was part of a patrol assigned to Jean Marie Vincent, a settlement camp for displaced survivors from the January 2010 earthquake.
He was married and had three children.
"Sergeant Kamari died from his wounds at the Cedimat hospital in the Dominican Republic, where he was immediately evacuated after being wounded by gunshots during an assault on his home in Port-au-Prince on Friday, August 19," The UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) said in a statement.
It announced his death with "sadness."
"In the name of all MINUSTAH police personnel, we express deep sympathy to all his fellow countrymen serving at the mission and present our sincere condolences to his family," said UN police commissioner Marc Tardif. (AFP)
