MICHEL MARTELLY DESIGNATES MINISTERS OF JUSTICE AND EDUCATION
(Defend Haiti) -
PORT-AU-PRINCE - On Tuesday President Michel Martelly advanced the names of Joshua Pierre-Louis and George Mérisier as Ministers of Justice and Education, respectively.
Launching the Week of Good Governance, at the School of Magistrates (EMA) and the Court of Cassation, the Head of State was accompanied by Joshua Pierre-Louis, saying that he would be the next Minister of Justice and Public Safety.
With the current Minister of Justice at his side, Mr. Martelly emphasized the need to establish a new form of governance based on the independence of the judiciary by announcing that members of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) officially take office in early October.
Speaking of his favorite subject, free education, which will be effective for almost 150,000 new students at the opening of the academic year, the President of the Republic has invited journalists to see the next Minister of National Education, George Mérisier.
After these announcements, Michel Martelly hinted a likely postponement of the date originally selected for the return to school activities, of September 5.
A little more than 90 days into the administration of Michel Martelly a functioning government has not yet been established. Two prime ministers previously designated by the president were rejected in the parliament. A third selection is being weighed by the presidency.
