This young child was at the hospital for a post-op check as well. It is good to see children who have already had surgery. With the pressure off the brain they develop. You can see the brightness and alertness in this child's eyes.

One of the rooms in the hospital was dedicated for the hydrocephalus patients. There wasn't much room available but the parents didn't mind. Their children were receiving hydrocephalus surgery and a chance at life.

25 shunt surgeries were performed as well as surgery on a tumor and a spina bifida surgery.

Joanna is working here helping out preparing the meals for those parents and children staying in the hospital.

A few of the older guys here at Coram Deo give her a hand in distributing the plates of food. We give the Lord thanks for those who donate to our programs here at Coram Deo. With these donations we are able to provide meals in the morning and evening at the hospital while the parents and children are hospitalized. Healing Hands brings the afternoon meal to the hospital.

Jony St. Louis from Healing Hands for Haiti is standing on the right. Healing Hands also has a physiotherapy program that the parents can take their children too after the surgeries. They also organize a few days of seminars each time there is a surgical process to explain to the parents what is hydrocephalus and how best to look after their children.

The same nurses from Hopital La Paix are assigned to provide nursing care each time there are surgeries. They are comfortable with the hydrocephalus children and provided excellent care.

These are a couple of families that we work with. The people of Coram Deo enjoyed bringing food to the hospital and helping out the families.

This shunt is malfunctioning. The shunt was removed and another placed on the other side of this girls' head. Pray this one works well.

Meghann Larrieux is a baby girl from the Cayes area. After her surgery the one side of her head is sunken in. Depending where the blockage is each child's head is different. She also has an orthopedic problem which will need to be fixed.

This baby girl is playing a couple of days after surgery. She is bright-eyed and doing well!

When infants have surgery at an early age their prognosis is better than infants with a larger head circumference. This baby is doing well after surgery.

Here is another bright-eyed baby!

With pressure off the brain bones of the skull are no longer pushed outwards. You can see the large open fontanel in the picture. This is caused by pressure in the brain. Over time the skull will close over the open fontanel.

Daniellita Auguste is shown here being fed by her mother. She was another child who originally was not part of the surgical list but a place was made for her as well. In total 25 surgeries were done.

Some hydrocephalus babies have well developed brains despite the extra fluid in the brain. This baby was sitting up in bed and this is a before surgery photo!
