Michel Martelly's theme is "Tet Kale" or "Baldy". He is definitely the popular vote of Port-au-Prince. I am not sure if he has enough support in the rest of the country. Pray for Monday's election results. I am worried that if Manigat is elected there will be riots in the country and that the people will not accept the results. Haiti has a history of political turmoil since its' beginnings. If Manigat is elected, will the people by their protests cause an elected leader not be installed? That is the thought on a lot of people's minds here in Haiti right now.
One leader who went into exile because of protests of the people was Jean Bertrand Aristide. Banners across the city with "Welcome Back Titide"(his nickname) are everywhere.
It was a great experience to be able to witness his return. It is a historical moment for the country and we took a lot of photos. Over the next while I will put most of them on and the videos too if I can find a way to upload them. It is now up to Aristide to "build" his future. I think he wants to be a Mandela. Pray that he works to build unity and peace as a citizen of Haiti. A lot of people listen to his voice. As this sign reads " Titid is the strength of the Haitian people". May this "strength" be used to help the country.
This young man proudly shows his portrait of Titid.
You can notice the UN by their white painted vehicle in the distance. They were silent observers of the the crowds that day.
