MARTELLY - NEW MARKET, PROJECT VILLAGE OF HOPE, IRRIGATION, EDUCATION
(Haiti Libre) -
Wednesday, the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly visited the town of Saint-Michel-de-l'Attalaye, in the Artibonite department, during a visit to officially launch the agricultural colony "Village of Hope" in Savane Diane; a commune located a few kilometers away. This construction project of 200 houses, funded by the Taiwanese to the tune of USD$5 millions will accommodate 200 families from the region by the end of August 2012.
"This pilot project will be supported, monitored with great interest and regularly evaluated. It is perhaps a track; no, the track, which will enable the entire region to get out from its isolation. If it passes the test, and I am sure that this will be the case, it will serve as a model for future projects for gathering populations scattered across our mountains and plains."
NEW MARKET FOR 3,500 MERCHANTS
Then the President traveled to Saint-Raphaël, in the North department, where he inaugurated the municipal market, that was built in nine months. It has a capacity of 3,500 merchants. It includes four buildings, 40 showers and 40 toilets. This market, one of the largest markets in the country, is built on a carreau and a half [19,150m2], has been funded by the Treasury and has created nearly 200 jobs at its construction.
Satisfied with the progress of the Head of State despite the absence of a Prime Minister, the Mayor of Saint-Raphaël Antiocus Robert François encourages the people to continue to accompany the President of the Republic in his efforts for development.
IRRIGATION OF 5,000 HECTARES
The President of the Republic has announced a major project which consists of irrigating five thousand acres of land in the North. This new irrigation project was announced Wednesday and was submitted by the Presidency to the attention of Taiwan's cooperation for funding. It represents the first major agricultural project of the mandate of the Head of State... Taiwan's technical mission assessment is already in place and it is working with Haitian technicians.
