HAITI'S SENATE STUDIES CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
(Radio Cadena) -

Santo Domingo - Haiti’s Senate President Kelly Bastien said that the Senate plans to initiate a reform of the country’s constitution as soon as the final results of the presidential and legislative elections are announced later this month.

According to news reports from Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, Bastien said meetings to amend the constitution will be held before the new president takes office in May.

The Provisional Electoral Council released preliminary results of the elections on Monday, but final results are not due until April 16.

At least 4 million Haitians were registered to vote on March 20 to elect a state president, seven senators and 77 members of the Chamber of Deputies. The first session of the National Assembly is scheduled for April 27.
