The CNO observers (guy in the white t-shirt is one) were watching the voting booths and looking for irregularities. The international community financed the elections - around $29 million US and the observers too!
We drove to the Building 2004 apartment buildings, which are located on the Piste road. There is a refuge camp in the courtyard and thousands of people living in tents near to the complex pictured.
You see a few peple reading papers.... and it isn't the local newspaper....
They are discarded voting ballots. Thousands of ballots,unmarked were discarded before the voting could get started when masked bandits made a mess of things.
Children were playing in the piles of ballots. Notice the large "VOTE" written on the wall. Unfortunately no voting took place at Building 2004. The children enjoyed playing with the ballots though and we have a souvenir of the ballots for president, deputy and senator. A good momento for 2010!
