The girls made good models :) Everyone wanted to take their picture.
I like this poster that was put up on Airport Rd. It is a child rights poster about protecting children from violence and abuse. There is a 511 hotline to report these cases.
The hydrocephalus surgeries are over. It was so good to see all the children in the hospital get their surgeries.
Three of the children operated on were born with spina bifida. This baby had the spina bifida sealed on her back as well as a hydrocephalus surgery.
This cute baby is less than one month old. She has spina bifida, and had the back and hydrocephalus surgery to install a shunt. It use to be that we had to find neurosurgeons in the United States to do them. Now the neurosurgeons come here to Haiti. This young baby has an excellent prognosis. Everything was done at such an early age. Keep praying for the development of the hydrocephalus program in Haiti.

Ysmaille has employees that do welding work for us. The shop is in front of our house and they are never without work.
Mirline Noel is 6-months-old. She lives in Paulna's village, Bonnette. One of her feet are slightly clubbed.
You can see the clubbing of her left foot.
Last week we brought her to Adventist Hospital in the Carrefour district to see an orthopedic doctor.
Roodmai Pierre is a 1-year-old boy who also has a slight deformity. We brought both children to Adventist Hospital.

The children came up with some creative ways of launching the fireworks!
It was good to see them having fun.
I don't know if they had planned it this way, but I think that they all agreed to wear white shirts that evening.
Maybe it was a safety thing :)
We made a visit to Paulna's village to meet up with a mother who had a baby that was born with a clubbed foot.

Pastor Octave now has the parge coat on his church. The next step is the fine cover parge and then the church is ready to be painted!
The next project on our list is to rebuild Macdonald's family home. First step is to build a toilet pit.
I am proud of Macdonald. He doesn't let his physical handicap prevent him from doing things like repairing people's computers.
I came across him one day with all the parts of someone's computer on the table. He identified what was wrong, repaired it and put it back together again. I want to help him develop his skills even more. He can make a good living for himself in the computer industry here in Haiti.
One Sunday afternoon Amos's youngest sister came by to say hello.

This is the driveway heading into the Logistics Base of the Red Cross. Inside are all kinds of vehicles.
Tap-taps are the main public transportation for the people. These tap-taps can hold anywhere from 14 to 20+ people; depending on how many can squeeze into an open place!
On our travels on the streets of Port-au-Prince, it is common to encounter UN vehicles. This UN military vehicle was driving kind of slow and we decided to pass them.
Kimosabee has lots of force and we "blurred" past them!
The guys standing on the back stood up to see who that "blanc" was who sped past them :) These soldiers were from Japan. They have an engineering contingent here in Haiti

Amos got his driver's license this week. This is his first official trip driving Kimosabee. Unfortunately Kimosabee is a little under the weather. He overheats when driving up hills so we are limiting our trips. Until he is fixed we rely on the good old tap-taps for travel involving longer distances and going up hills.

The children had an experimental garden on the roof. They had a good corn crop growing in an old tire filled with soil. The corn thrived during all the rains we had but now that it is dryer the children keep forgetting to water their corn. Now they have a dried up crop. At least they learned a lesson on farming.

We bought a "mobile net" internet modem from Hainet last week and set it up to a wireless router. Now we have a Cyber Cafe here at Coram Deo. In order to avoid fights Manu is in charge of scheduling. Everyone gets a turn in 30 minute increments. Manu enjoys supervising the room. When the others don't listen when their time is up, he come and gets me.

We are trying to grow grass . I asked Pastor Pierre on Saturday to turn over the dirt and stake out the area. It sort of looks nice. It would be nice to have some more green space to the yard.

From a distance it looks like a maze. I'll take a photo again in a couple months to see if any grass comes up.

On the grounds of the Bernard Mevs/Project Medishare Hospital is a large trailer.

I went to the other side of it and saw that it is a mobile cat scan truck sponsored by Project Medishare. This mobile scanner will be beneficial for the hydrocephalus program that Project Medishare co-ordinates as well as being useful for trauma cases that come to the hospital.

The mobile cat scanner was donated to Project Medishare by Yele Haiti. Wyclef Jean is the founder of Yele Haiti. Thanks Wyclef! This will help out the hospital a lot.

Tearing down of broken buildings is a slow ongoing process but progress is being made. This large John Deer backhoe is busy breaking down a broken building.

Pray for the work of all those involved in the rubble removal process. Rebuilding can not occur until the rubble is removed. It is encouraging seeing the large machinery at work!

I went with Jeff to visit a refuge camp near us and one of the women in the camp told us about a baby who had been born that week. A haitian "nurse" had binded the feet with plastic to help to straighten it and the circulation to the feet had been cut off. We told the mother to remove the plastic splint. This baby will be starting casting of his feet this week. We told the mother not to be discouraged and that the baby's feet will eventually become straight with treatment. This baby will not be abandoned by his mother like Grace Hope was.

Children in Haiti struggle with malnutrition sometimes due to the poverty of the families. We recently received another donation from Love a Child of Feed My Starving Children rice meals.

With this assistance we can help some mothers in their struggle to find food for their families.

Our school program is going well and the teachers here are doing their best to educate the children in their classes.

Our school has a "country theme" for the school uniform this year. Every year, it seems we receive a donation of several shirts of the same type and color. You can see the "country music " white t-shirts that several of the children are proudly wearing as their uniform!
