ARTICLE - PNH - STRENGTHENING CANINE UNIT

STRENGTHENING OF THE CANINE UNIT OF THE PNH
(Haiti Libre) -

As part of the support of the United Nations Police (UNPOL) to the National Police of Haiti (PNH), particularly in capacity building, six new sniffer dogs have arrived in Haiti, after having followed, with six dog handlers [PNH officers] attached to this unit, a specialized training of 12 weeks, in Bogota, Colombia.

This project aims to increase the capacity of the canine unit, which until now had only 4 dogs. These dogs will be used in close collaboration with the Office of Counter-Narcotics (BLTS) and the canine squad, and will thus reinforce the operational capacity of the PNH, particularly in terms of border security.

This strengthening was made possible through the contributions of the Republic of Colombia and the Dominican Republic, as well as training specialists in this field [of UNPOL] and the National Aviation Service of the United States, which has facilitated the transport of the dogs.
