HAITI - INSECURITY: THE BANDITRY IS INCREASING, 6 DEAD AND SEVERAL INJURED

While President Michel Martelly continues to affirm his willingness to put an end to the insecurity in the country, acts of banditry have continued to increase during the week that followed his swearing.
Thursday, May 19 at 6:30am, unidentified individuals, circulating on a motorcycle, opened fire on passers-by, Conclusion: 1 dead and one seriously injured.
Thursday night, 3 people were killed by gunmen at the crossroads of Airport Rd. and Delmas. An individual who had just robbed a citizen was killed in exchanges of fire with police. His accomplices who have not yet been identified managed to flee.
Last Friday, on Metelus Street near Place Boyer, Petion-Ville, a woman who had made a bank withdrawal was fatally wounded in her car by individuals on a motorcycle, at the time she was returning home. Rushed to hospital by police, who arrived on the scene minutes after the assault, the victim is unfortunately died from her wounds.
A heavy toll for only two days: 6 dead and several wounded. Our new President and the police will have much to do to restore security so long awaited by the people...
