photos - earthquake anniversary - part 1

Wednesday marked the one-year anniversary of the earthquake that struck Haiti and took many lives. It was a day of memorial and all businesses were shut. It was a time of reflection for the people of Haiti. Many visited grave sites and went to prayer services that were held throughout the city. We attended the ceremony at the site of the old DGI (central tax office). A cross was in place and President Preval laid a wreath of flowers at the site to commemorate all the lives lost here in Haiti.

We took this photo of President Preval's arrival to the site.

Dr. Paul Farmer is widely known and is head of Partners in Health. He also is a wise man who knows a lot about Haiti and is one of the people trying to rebuild Haiti. He greeted President Preval with a hug.

A former American president, Bill Clinton was also attending the memorial ceremony.

Time was spent in a moment of prayer and silence for the victims of January 12th.
