SPAIN: WORKS BLOCKED, UNACCEPTABLE!
(Haiti Libre)
Within the framework of the strategy to fight against cholera, it remains essential to ensure adequate treatment of residues associated with this epidemic. The National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA) has begun building the first, wastewater treatment plant (station d’épuration) of the country with funding from the Spanish Government for an amount of $2 million in the locality of Titanyen. Work began at the end of last November and was executed to nearly 80% completion.
Spain, as a principal partner of the DINEPA, regrets that, due to property claims on land, it was unilaterally decided to terminate the construction of the plant. The Embassy of Spain is seeking the intervention of the Government of Haiti to resolve this situation, so that people can receive this assistance.
It is important to note that Spain has redoubled its support to the DINEPA after the earthquake of January 12, 2010 and the cholera epidemic, by providing immediately available funds and technical and logistical support. The paralysis of the waste water treatment plant of Titanyen is bad news.
