WISHES FROM THE AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED STATES TO THE HAITIAN PEOPLE
(HaitiLibre)
Kenneth H. Merten - The year 2010 is nearing its end. I would like to express to the Haitian people my best wishes for a better year. This year has been painful in the history of Haiti, with the earthquake of 12 January, numerous floods, and the sudden appearance of cholera.
You have overcome these difficulties with dignity and courage and I am confident that with your determination, the year 2011 will be better despite the huge challenges that remain. This beautiful country has remained under the clouds for too long. My wish for 2011 is that Haiti can start and recover rightfully its place in the area and the world.
I appeal to all Haitian leaders, who love their homeland, whether they are in the political sector, private, social, or religious group, asking them to renew their commitment to a policy that will prioritize common interests.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, the international community has committed to invest in a better future for the Haitian people, to create more jobs and to allow Haitians to better achieve their dreams. I am convinced that the Haitian political and economic leaders will do their best to take this opportunity to promote a climate for private investment and job creation. May the year 2011 really be a year of economic growth and a better rebuilding for Haiti.
My country, the United States, also desires that a new president and parliament are elected democratically in accordance with the will of the Haitian people expressed through their vote.
Each of us must contribute to a good year - 2011. Myself, and all the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Haiti, renew our commitment to work with the Haitian people.
I wish everyone a year of peace and prosperity. May God bless Haiti, that he bless the United States and that the friendship between our two countries is eternal.
Best Wishes for 2011.
