photos - vote results - part 1

The preliminary results for the presidential election were reported by the CEP (electoral council) Tuesday evening at around 9:00pm. Advancing to the next round would be Mirlande Manigat and Jude Celestin. This was a surprise to everyone as Michel Martelly was the popular favorite. As a result riots started as soon as the news was delivered. Barricades and burning tires were set up throughout the city overnight and the talk of the morning everywhere was the election. I went with the older guys on foot to see what was going on. No vehicle traffic was on the road.

As we approached main Delmas we noticed more signs of discontent of the people. These burning tire remnants were still smoldering. The police avoided the crowds of people throughout the day and let the people protest.

In their anger there was rocks everywhere put on the roads by upset people.

Main Delmas was barricaded all over the place with tires and other obstructions. Large groups of people were in the streets protesting all day. These people were all supporters of Michel Martelly.

We headed up Delmas towards Delmas 33.
