Yesterday started as a day of uncertainty.
Jean Bertrand Aristide got called to court to be heard as a witness as part of
the Jean Dominique murder investigation. Lavalas supporters vowed to take to the
streets to accompany Aristide to and from court. We had to also be in the
Tabarre area that morning as well.We encountered little traffic on the street
when we drove over to the Christian Reformed Ministry Centre for the Timothy
Leadership Training Seminars. We were prepared for encountering large crowds of
people and were prepared to walk part of the way if we had to but it ended up by
being a nice relaxing Sunday drive on uncrowded streets! We made 2 trips
transporting 14 on the first trip and 5 on the 2nd.
Stevens Petit-Frere and his mother went to the Nos Petits Freres et Soeurs Hospital in the Tabarre region yesterday as well. Stevens is admitted for cancer treatment. We will need to get a cat scan done for him next week and will need to bring a biopsy to get analyzed at a lab next week. Pray he can be helped with chemotherapy. When we drove past Aristides' house all was quiet. The only people in front of his home were police vehicles and a foreign diplomat vehicle keeping an eye on the place.
The police had let it be known that they weren't authorizing any protests but thousands of people ignored them and showed up in the downtown area to accompany Aristide on his trip back home. We were glad that on this uncertain day all our activities went according to plan :)
