30,000 US$ CASH SEIZED FROM UN PEACEKEEPER AT AIRPORT

PUNTA CAUCEDO, Dominican Republic - A United Nations Peacekeeper was detained at the Las Americas International Airport in the Dominican Republic for having smuggled $30,000[US] in cash money out of Haiti.
Ricardo Alves Silva, a member of the Brazilian battalion of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) told Dominican customs agents that the money was to purchase asphalt for the Haitian government.
Silva flew out of Haiti aboard flight 4857 of American Eagle and the $30,000 [US] was found in his suitcase. Reports indicate that Silva was given orders to leave, but with no other information if the money was retained by the authorities.
