ARTICLE - UN - INDONESIA - ENGINEERING

A NEW MILITARY ENGINEERING CONTINGENT IN HAITI
(Haiti Libre) -

While there is much talk in Haiti about the departure of the Minustah, a new Military Engineering Contingent has arrived in Haiti, as part of Resolution 1908 of the Security Council of the United Nations of January 19, 2010 for "the support to the immediate efforts of rehabilitation, econstruction and stabilization" of Haiti.

This is the Indonesian Military Engineering Contingent (INDOENGCOY), composed of 148 members, that will be deployed to Gonaives under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Winarno.

The arrival of the contingent INDOENGCOY (sixth) put the number of indonesian military engineers in Haiti to 167.

The other Military Engineering Contingents are those of Brazil (BRAENGCOY), Korea (ROKENGCOY), Chile, Ecuador (CHICUENGCOY), Japan (JAPENGCOY) and Paraguay (PARENGCOY).

The Military Engineering Contingents are working mainly in construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure, roads, bridges, canals, and removal of debris. But these contingents have also a social purpose; visiting orphanages to make donations...
