ARTICLE - INVESTMENT AND JOBS = HOPE

INVESTMENT AND JOBS, BETWEEN EXPECTATIONS AND HOPES
(Haiti Libre) -

While the ratified Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille and President Martelly consult each other on the composition of the ministerial cabinet, and the general policy statement of the Government; the economic actors and the population await the priority of investment and job creation.

Edouard Paultre, head of the Haitian Council of Non State Actors (Conseil Haïtien des Acteurs Non Etatiques CONHANE) declared "...For over 20 years, there has been a political staff that needs to be renewed within the country, that needs to set the tone for a change in the country, [...] that will give a signal that the policy can be done in a different way. What results do we expect from this government? You know that the country faces great challenges. There is the unemployment rate, which is extremely high, and which is unacceptable. We need a government that is able to say, as Mr. Martelly has already said, that the country is open for business. It is a good thing, that he says it is open for business, for said job creation. Therefore, we need the government to indicate to us how much jobs it thinks it can create each year. Of course we do not think that the state is able to give a job to everyone, but it is the government's ability to receive investment, not just from Haiti but also foreign investment, which can allow us to create these jobs."

For Hervé Denis, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH), the ratification of the Prime Minister is an important step and he hopes that the next Government will promote business opportunities. "Of course we have expectations, as does the whole population, because President Martelly has been elected for some time and the ratification of a Prime Minister subsequently [...] Now it's done. We have passed an important step, and we hope that it will continue, so that we can find opportunities for business; not only for ourselves, but obviously for the whole population [...] We hope that a legitimate government, will also have the means to apply a security policy, to encourage investment in the country..."
