THE GENERAL POLICY OF THE PRIME MINISTER APPROVED IN THE SENATE

This Thursday, October 13, 2011, the new Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille has submitted to the Senate, the composition of his cabinet and has read the statement of general policy of the Government. After the reading the new Prime Minister has faced their reactions and has answered the many questions and requests for clarification from the Senators.... An exercise that lasted nearly eight hours and ended around 3:15am with a favorable vote. The session lasted nearly 12 hours.
"...just before we vote I ask to the First Secretary to read section 158 of the constitution" declared Jean Rodolphe Joazile, the President of the Senate.
[section 158] "The Prime Minister in accordance with the President chooses the members of its Cabinet (Ministers) and presents itself before the Parliament in order to obtain a vote of confidence on its statement of general policy. Voting takes place by open ballot and to the absolute majority of each of the two (2) Houses. In the case of a vote of no confidence by one of the two (2) Houses, the procedure is repeated."
After reading article 158, the President of the Senate proceeded with the vote "... an absolute majority in the Senate of the Republic is 16...those in favor... 16, ... 4 against, ... 5 abstentions. The general policy declaration of Prime Minister Garry Conille is adopted."
Prime Minister Conille must undergo the same exercise in the House of Deputies on Friday [except for an unforeseen postponement]. If he gets a favorable vote, the new Prime Minister and his ministerial cabinet will finally take office.
