AT LEAST 3 DEATHS FOLLOWING FLOODING IN HAITI
(Metropole) -
Flooding caused by heavy rains have hit several geographic departments of the country causing the deaths of 3 people.
There were 2 deaths in the South and significant material damage, notably in the Chantal district.
This info was provided by the Deputy for the Torbeck/Chantal region, Guy Gerard Georges.
The parliamentarian stated that the rising waters will be the cause of an augmentation in the number of cases of cholera in the district. He invites the authorities to take measures to provide assistance to the population of this region.
Another person was killed in the community of Grand Boucan following flooding. The community of Baraderes is under water. Hundreds of people are displaced and in a difficult situation.
Considerable damage has been registered in other communities in the Nippes Department.
Note that according to the National Meteriological Centre, rains and thunderstorms are predicted for this week in several geographical departments in the coutry.
