We were driving past the port and we thought we would try to see if they would let us inside to see the earthquake damage. The security guard at the gate allowed us! We were surprised!
The pier is damaged and containers are loaded one at a time while it is being repaired.
Barges are used to move supplies.
Heavy crane equipment no longer have a shore to stand on as it collapsed in the earthquake.
Heavy port equipment is standing in the water now. I don't know how they are going to replace the destroyed pier.
