Greg Van Veen was asked to be guest english teacher for the english classes that meet in the yard.

The students are eager to learn. The classes meet a couple times a week for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

September is the warmest month here in Haiti. Tim decided it would be cooler to get a shave cut!

Bill Vander Gaag hooked up a water barrel to the roof for my own personal use! This is a natural sun water heater shower system!

They also brought along the turkey burners with them. The burners and pots will be used for the outside kitchen. Currently we are cooking with charcoal and will be converting over to propane with these burners. We need another couple of parts to make the conversion to Haitian gas tanks but another team is coming at the end of the month and hopefully they can bring the extra parts with them.

Children use up their energy chasing after the soccer ball!

The number one sport here in Haiti is soccer and there are not many good soccer fields upon which to play.

These fields are a blessing to all the many children who use them. When the children are done playing they remove their uniforms and soccer shoes.

and head back to their homes. Thank you to the Youth Soccer Association of Chatham from the children of Haiti! Your gifts of uniforms and shoes are welcomed by the children of the L'Atletique d"Haiti soccer program.

Clothing was also brought along by the visitors. These young boys from the neighborhood helped us out one Saturday morning while we were cleaning the yard. They were rewarded with a gift of some clothing as a thank you.

Somebody told us to go to the airport area, to the "UN cluster" area to find the World Food Programme. We did and they sent us to where the UN was and not where the humanitarian aid groups are based. I don't think we were supposed to be in this area but we pretended we knew where we were. We saw a building marked cafeteria and ate a good meal in an air conditioned building. This was a nice break. Karen Bosma is standing in the background. She met a friend with FAO who she had met while living in Haiti.

Finally we found out where we should have been and went over to the UNICEF tent. They gave us a list of medical supplies that we were eligible to requisition. This is a great contact!

This is the On-Site Operations Co-Ordination tent (OSOCC); this is the hub of the humanitarian wheel and shows where UN relief activities are taking place.

While wandering in the UN area we passed some soldiers from Japan.

This sure looks like a tourist photo! but we were working. We made a lot of helpful contacts for the future today. It is overwhelming with the needs that there is in Haiti right now. I am glad to have company in our activities here at Coram Deo.
