photos - medical cases

Angelo Lafortune is now in the United States for a post-op check-up with his neurosurgeon. He needs to be monitored every year to determine if his brain tumor is growing back. He's a friendly boy who has a good family.

Daphka Saintvil has been in the United States for several months already for orthopedic surgery on a deformed lower leg. This is her and her host mother. It is great how these families open up their homes to provide a home away from home for children in need of medical care.

Daphka recently had an additional surgery on her leg. She has an external fixator in place. Pray the bone heals well.

Solyvien Favra had a fractured ankle that was never set and this resulted in a deformity for him.

Because his foot is twisted he walks on the top of his foot. He will need a couple of reconstructive surgeries to set the ankle properly. His father was happy with the news that a doctor and hospital have been found that are donating this care free of charge.

Doudeleimy Beaubrun is now finally standing! She has clubbed feet and this past week had surgery to straighten them further after months of casting.

Phara Simeon is continuing to do well after her hydrocephalus surgery. Here she is with some of her friends in the United States.

Emmanuel Oreus is a young hydrocephalus child who is also malnourished. He is being treated at Bernard Mevs Hospital for malnutrition.

Kervens Jean also suffers from malnutrition. His big belly was full of worms. He too was hospitalized but now is discharged. His mother was raped at the end of October 2007 and is now pregnant.

Michelson Josme had surgery for the tumor under his arm but the Lord called him home.

Daniel Joseph is a young boy whose legs are bowing. These braces provided by Healing Hands Foundation should help him. Hopefully his mother will keep them on. He doesn't look too happy with them!

This happy boy is Kervens Guerrier. His left foot is clubbed. We will be starting a medical search for him to try and get this treated. Without treatment he won't be able to walk normally. Pray for the search process.

Stevenson Dol is a 4 year old boy with a heart problem. We will be planning in the future to get an echographie done to determine what type of heart problem he has.

Lakshme Demosthenes is a 2 week old baby girl with an encephalocele starting to grow from the top of her head. It is difficult to see in this photo. Next week a cat scan will be done and then the medical search process will start. With a limited amount of resources we can not pay for everyone's care. When talking with the families I try to get an idea of what their financial situation is. This lady's husband lives in the United States and can pay for medical tests.

We have been helping this mother out from time to time with food. She came to us this week after not being able to provide food for her family for 3 days. We give the Lord thanks for being able to help this mother with a gift of food.

This is Iliodor Noel getting out of the car. We picked him up from the hospital and he will now spend some time recovering here at Coram Deo. He is still weak and shaky with the crutches but with some good food and rest he should get stronger over time. Keep him in prayer.

This man has a gangrene leg that needs to be amputated. He has now been in the emergency department at the hospital for two weeks. He is desperate to have his leg amputated as well. It is too uncomfortable laying in bed so he spends his time sitting in a chair. Keep him in prayer as we try to get him his surgery.

We give the Lord thanks that Naphtalie Bazile was able to get her passport and visa this week. She will be travelling soon for brain surgery to treat her hydrocephalus. She has a caring family.

Marie Nesly Celestin is a child that was operated on in the last round of hydrocephalus surgeries done in Haiti at the end of October. She was delivered caesarean section because of her large head and at 3 days of age was operated on to put in a shunt to drain the excess fluid. The shunt worked fine until January. Now the head is growing. In the last round of surgeries there were 3 shunt surgeries performed. 2 of these children died and now this one has a failed shunt which results in a 100% failure rate. Pray that a good post-op process can be developed here in Haiti for those children that are operated on here.

This happy baby is Junior Dan and he has a minor cleft lip. He may be able to get this corrected here in Haiti. There is a plastic surgery team coming in March to Hinche. Pray for their efforts
