SENATOR ZENNY DEFENDS MARTELLY ON CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS
(Defend Haiti) -
PORT-AU-PRINCE - Although Haitian Electoral Law prohibits any candidate from receiving more than $50,000 [US] from any one entity and President Martelly is alleged to have accepted $2.5 million during his campaign, Senator Edwin Zenny (Sud-Est/Independent), in defense of his close friend, the Head of State, said there were no structures in place to enforce that law.
Senator Zenny on Wednesday did not discount the possibility that President Martelly could have taken money from a Dominican Senator during his presidential run, but said he did not believe the Head of State would have taken money afterwards as President of the Republic of Haiti.
Senator Zenny said "the laws are there, but there is no one in place to enforce them."
Zenny believes that an investigation should continue and that President Martelly would pursue legal action against the journalist who exposed the malfeasance.
