SUPPORTERS OF MARTELLY ATTACK STUDENTS
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE- Supporters of President Martelly attacked students at the State University of Haiti on Friday afternoon, Feb. 17, in Port-au-Prince. The reason, say students, is that they prevented President Martelly to get inside the establishment where there was an international symposium. The President was trying to enter the University with his supporters in a carnival atmosphere.

Incidents erupted on the Champ de Mars near the Faculty of Ethnology, while President Martelly tried to get inside the institution in a carnival atmosphere with his supporters, according to Radio Vision 2000.

Supporters of Martelly threw stones at students who opposed the head of state. Two students were injured in the attack and taken to hospital. Students reported that they were also attacked by agents of the presidential guard who came within the Faculty and caused damage.

The library of the Faculty of Ethnology and the Ethnology Office were vandalized.

In response, the students threw stones at the motorcade of the head of state. Some car windows were smashed.

A scene that is reminiscent of Black Friday on December 5 2003, when Aristide supporters penetrated inside the Faculty of Humanities, assaulting students.
