MARTELLY - CONILLE PRESS CONFERENCE
(Haiti Libre) -

Yesterday, at the National Palace, a joint press conference took place between the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Garry Conille. We present to you the declaration of the two interlocutors.

Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic, for his part said that the country is going in the right direction. The new government will be representative, open and inclusive, and that he and Garry Conille form a winning duo:

"We know that change does not come without resistance, but I can say today that I feel that we are going in the right direction; that change is on the road,The change is there. It is the will of the Haitian people. That's why they have chosen me, Michel Joseph Martelly as President.

The Prime Minister is establishing a new representative government, that is open and inclusive for the change that we speak. And this government will focus on the priorities of President Martelly. Priorities that we all know: Education, Jobs, Rule of law and the the Environment. The reconstruction of Haiti will really begin, and it is necessary that everyone join together,... that everyone agrees.

I will put all my confidence in the Prime Minister Garry Conille,... my Prime Minister. I believe in his ability to provide ... performance, working with all sectors of the country. I think that the country will have with us, two who are standing here that are a winning duo. Our concern is to see a better Haiti for the Haitian people."

For his part Conille Garry, the new Prime Minister of Haiti, thanked the President for his help, and also the parliamentarians :

"I thank the President of the Republic not only for the confidence he has placed in me but for the support he has given me, because there are many people who did not see what is happening behind the stage. But the truth is that over the last four weeks I found a President, but also a friend who called me regularly to see how things were going, to ask me how he can help me unlock things, to assist us and support us. So I want to thank him both for his confidence, and for his support, which really presages an open and honest collaboration. The President has created a space where I can have very, very honest and sincere discussions with him, and I am very anxious to begin the collaboration on this basis.

I also want to thank the parliamentarians of the Chamber of Deputies and more recently of Senate, I want to tell them that I have listened to them. Over the past four weeks, I have met almost everyone in small groups; some several times. I listened to them and we will reflect on the conversations that we had with them in the various documents that we will have to prepare. We talked a lot on how to present the vision of the President of the Republic.

Finally, I would like to simply say to all the people of Haiti that I know that for several years, you have heard a lot of words. Today is the time for action. We are ready to start working. We are ready, alongside the President of the Republic, with the senators, with the deputies, with the elected, to begin to bring results that will make changes in your life..."

Concerning the doubts emitted by Senator Jean William Jeanty on the citizenship of Garry Conille, ... he has simply responded "...I do not have Canadian citizenship. I am Haitian and I have never renounced my citizenship..."

Concerning the remarks of Senator Jean Hector Anacacis who announced the divorce of this marriage [Conille - Martelly], the Prime Minister responded,... "my collaboration with the President of the Republic has so far been very positive, and very productive. As I said earlier, the President has created a space where we can have frank, honest debate of ideas where the whole team can express their disagreement. I think it's something that is extremely positive and I believe to the contrary that this is the platform that is good for moving forward."
