ARTICLE - G16 - NO PART OF GOV'T CONILLE

NO MEMBER OF THE G16 WILL BE PART OF THE CONILLE GOVERNMENT
(Haiti Libre) -

While the parliamentarians are unable to agree on the attitude to adopt concerning the ratification vote on the policy statement of the new Prime Minister, Senator Joseph Lambert (INITE) reported that "no member of the group of 16 will be part of the Government of Conille", while many parliamentarians, Members and Senators, demand that the promises are respected....

The G16 stated that initially several ministries including the Interior, Environment, Culture, Trade, and even of Public Health had been entrusted to the Group of 16, along with some General Directorates. It was even planned, acording to them, that Senators Joseph Lambert and Kély Bastien become Ministers...

Since then, it seems that things are different. Some close contacts of the Head of State claim that the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Interior and even the new Prime Minister should keep for himself the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, assisted by a Secretary of State...

Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras (Centre) has indicated that he had convinced the Senators of G16 to renounce the idea of obtaining positions in the government. He stated that discussions are still ongoing on the economy, and the G16 wishes to appoint representatives in the government; especially that "promises that were made at the time of the ratification have not been respected."

Senator Joseph Lambert (INITE) indicated that his team does not give him its agreement to accept a ministerial portfolio. He said that "No member of the Group of 16 will be part of the Conille Government". The Senator hopes that the new chief of government would show understanding regarding the reality of the country. He said that the meetings are continuing between the G16 and the new Prime Minister; in order to discuss key areas of national life, citing among other things: the sectors of national production, focused on the small processing industry, agriculture and fisheries, micro-credit, diplomacy,.... oriented towards the research opportunities for the country, education,... equipped with a functional staff, trained and adapted for new realities, health... advocating a service of proximity in the fight against cholera,... the rural world and the environment.

For his part, Deputy Eloune Doréus {Alternative) said that the group of 58 [new majority in the lower house], had not yet adopted a common position. For his part, he determines his vote with the signing of a pact of governability and a new direction for the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC)

Deputy Guy Gérard Georges [GPR in the lower house], requires of the Executive, the respect of the "word",... to obtain a favorable vote to the general policy of the Prime Minister. "It is necessary to go much faster with the general policy statement, but we believe that the respect of the word [by the President or the Prime Minister], ... at the level of the blocks organized in Parliament, be respected..."

Senator Jean William Jeanty (KONBA) who has always been opposed to Dr. Conille, urges the Parliamentarians to make a block. "We must not accept, as Prime Minister, someone imposed by Bill Clinton. It's a shame for the country..."

Senator Youri Latortue (AAA), who voted in favor of the New Prime Minister explained his vote by the desire to keep his 'promise", but admitted that there were shadows in the file of the new Prime Minister...

As for Deputy Joseph Wilbert Deshommes (INITE), he considers normal that the President of the Republic makes the choice of Ministers that will allow him to implement his political program and advises his colleagues to avoid conflicts with the Prime Minister, who heads the Executive.
