GARY CONILLE RATIFIED IN THE SENATE, 17 FOR, 3 AGAINST AND 9 ABSTENTIONS
(Haiti Libre) -

After six hours of sometimes contradictory lively debate, the Senate has ratified late in the evening, the Prime Minister-designate, Dr. Garry Conille...

"...the report of the special commission responsible for analyzing the record of Prime Minister-designate Gary Conille, ... was put to a vote. Those in favor were 17, 3 were against, and there were 9 abstentions. Therefore, Dr. Garry Conille was ratified tonight by the Senate of the Republic."

30 Senators were present. The G16 has contributed largely to the victory of Dr. Conille. 15 of the 16 Senators have given a positive vote [Moïse Jean-Charles dissented and voted against]. Senator Youri Latortue and Senator Edwin Zenny have also voted for Conille, thus giving a majority vote for the ratification of the Prime Minister.

Among the nine abstentions, six were from the Alternative Platform, which had ... many doubts raised in the record of Dr. Conille.

The ratification process will continue in the coming days. "We do not give a blank cheque to Mr. Conille. We can not yet say that he will be the Head of the next government" reacted Senator Joseph Lambert, head of the majority party in the Senate; who stated that Dr. Garry Conille must pass a final step by obtaining a vote of confidence [majority] in both Houses of Parliament [separately], in the statement of his general policy of government. "The task will not be easy, even after this vote for Mr. Conille", the Senator Lambert said.
