Just outside the city on Rte. Nationale #1, are some large refuge camps. They are known as Canaan, Jerusalem and Corrail. They are located in an arid region with no trees for shade. Over time the tents are turning into shelters. Here is a view of the camps. Thousands of people live out here.
There is no break from the sun for these people.
Some have constructed wooden shelters, some tin and others tarps. These camps are more than camps now. They are becoming communities and actually small cities.
Hopefully government will develop these communities into more permanent structures and with streets and utilities. As you can see there is no water or electricity.
This is a view from inside the Corrail camp looking out to the surrounding informal camp. The Corrail camp is the Club Med of refuge camps.
