PRESIDENT MARTELLY DECIDES TO RESPOND TO QUESTIONS OF NATIONALITY
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE – President Michel Martelly, after deciding he would not respond to questions that he may hold citizenship in other countries, decided on Tuesday to respond to claims that he has citizenship in Italy.

Before flying off to Nicaragua to attend the inauguration of its president, Martelly spoke to the press in the Diplomatic Room of the Toussaint Louverture International Airport saying:

”About the dual nationality, I get the impression that he [Senator Jean Charles (Nord/Inite)] may have heard in one of my songs when I said [“an Italian phrase”]…”

”He must have just heard the song and then the gentleman said I was Italian.”

Senator Moïse Jean Charles has alleged that President Michel Martelly holds citizenship in the United States and in Italy. President Martelly said earlier he would not respond to any such allegations but did respond to the claims that he may be an Italian national. Martelly did not comment on the allegation of U.S. nationality.

The president said that he will continue to work for the people in different areas of their lives where they are struggling, before hopping aboard a jet to Nicaragua.
