PRESIDENT MARTELLY NOT ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT NATIONALITY
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE – In President Michel Martelly’s first appearance in public since the revelation that he may hold foreign nationality, the president chose to not answer any questions related to the charges coming from the Senator of the North.

President Martelly delivered his State of the Union at the opening of legislative sessions on Monday in front of both houses of parliament.

After the oration, Martelly was confronted by the press who asked if he had any reactions to the allegations of him holding citizenship in the United States, and in Italy.

”Gentlemen, I am a president that came to work. I used to make jokes….”

”…with the reality of the people that are in misery, that are suffering, I will respond to it. If you have questions about progress and development for Haiti, I will respond to it, ... if you are wasting your time and you want me to waste time with you, don’t put me in anything like that.”

Senator Moise Jean Charles (Nord/Inite) has alleged that Michel Martelly and three (3) other members of his government are citizens in another country. For Martelly, Senator Jean-Charles says he holds nationality in the United States and Italy.

The Constitution of Haiti does not allow the president of the republic to hold any nationality other than Haitian and if one is found under those circumstances the should be immediately removed from office and charged with a high level offense.
